Frequently asked questions

How Scoped SEO works, what it collects (almost nothing), and how billing works.

General

What is Scoped SEO?

Scoped SEO is a free browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that audits any web page's on-page SEO, Core Web Vitals, and AI search readiness in one click, right in your browser.

Which browsers does it work on?

Chrome and other Chromium-based browsers, including Microsoft Edge and Brave, from the Chrome Web Store, and Firefox from Firefox Add-ons.

Do I need an account to use it?

No. Install it from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons and start auditing right away. Every audit tab works without signing in. An account is optional. It's what connects a Pro purchase to the extension and to this website, and you can sign in with Google or with an email and password.

Does it work on any website?

Yes, on any page you can view in your browser. Some browser-internal pages (like chrome:// or about: pages) can't be audited, since extensions can't access them. That's a browser restriction, not a Scoped SEO one.

Where is the documentation?

Every tab, setting and limit is explained in the docs, with screenshots from the extension. Start with Getting started.

Privacy & Data

Does Scoped SEO send my pages to a server?

No. The page you're auditing is read and analyzed inside your own browser, and its content is never uploaded to Scoped SEO or anyone else. A few features do make requests, and the Privacy Policy lists every one: reading the page's own robots.txt, sitemap, and headers, an optional link status check you start yourself, a favicon request to Google for the search preview, and account and plan checks if you sign in.

What data do you actually store?

If you never sign in, nothing about you is stored on our servers. If you create an account, we store your email, your name if you give one, a hashed password (or your Google account ID if you use Google sign-in), and the devices signed in. Pro adds your plan, renewal date, and Paddle billing references. Saved audits, preferences, and report branding stay on your device.

Does the extension track my browsing?

No. It has no analytics or advertising SDK and doesn't record which sites you audit. The optional network features are described in the Privacy Policy.

Where do Saved Audits live?

On your device, in your browser's own storage. They aren't uploaded or synced, so clearing your browser data or switching to another profile means they won't be there. Free keeps up to 10 and Pro is unlimited.

Why does Check Status ask for site access?

Checking a link means requesting its address, and Chrome only lets an extension do that for sites you allow. Nothing is requested until you press Check Status, Chrome asks you about each new site, and you can say no and keep using everything else. Requests go out without your cookies or a referrer.

Pricing & Billing

What's the difference between Free and Pro?

Every audit tab and check is identical on both plans. Free includes up to 10 saved audits, 2 report exports a day, and Scoped SEO branding on screenshots and reports. Pro makes saved audits and exports unlimited and swaps the branding for your own name or agency name.

How much does Pro cost?

$6.99/month, or $59/year (about 30% cheaper than paying monthly). See Pricing for details.

Do I need to enter a license key?

Usually not. Sign in to the extension or this website with the email you used at checkout and Pro turns on by itself. If you bought with a different email, the Settings & Account tab has a box for linking a purchase with the license key from your confirmation email.

Who processes payments?

Paddle, acting as Merchant of Record. They handle your card details, receipts, and any applicable tax. Scoped SEO never sees your full card number.

Can I get a refund?

Yes, within 14 days of purchase or renewal, no detailed justification required. See our Refund Policy.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Use Manage subscription on your account page or in the extension's Settings & Account tab, follow the cancellation link in your Paddle receipt, or email support@scopedseo.com. Pro stays active until the end of your paid period.

Technical

What does the AI Search Readiness score measure?

It's a weighted score over signals Scoped SEO can observe locally: response status, indexing directives, whether your robots.txt allows AI search crawlers (OAI-SearchBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot, and Googlebot), whether your main text is in the initial HTML, canonical, content clarity, and entity markup when you declare any. Training crawlers like GPTBot and ClaudeBot are shown separately and never change the score. It doesn't measure real AI citations and doesn't guarantee visibility.

Is the speed score the same as Lighthouse or PageSpeed Insights?

No. It's a Scoped SEO indicator built from the timings your browser reports for the page you're viewing, and it says which parts were measured. It isn't a Lighthouse score and mobile isn't simulated. Run PageSpeed Insights alongside it when you want lab and field data.

Why did my score change between visits?

Your page may have changed (a deploy, a CMS update, a plugin), and Scoped SEO's checks are refined over time, so scores from different versions aren't always comparable. Saved audits keep the result as it was recorded and are never rescored.

Can I export a report to share with a client?

Yes. Use the Export button for a PDF, DOCX, or CSV report covering every tab. Free includes 2 exports a day with Scoped SEO branding. Pro is unlimited and carries your own branding.

Is there an API?

Not currently. Scoped SEO is a browser extension by design, and audits run against the live, rendered page you're looking at.

How do I report a bug or send feedback?

Use the Feedback & Bug Report page. Tell us what happened, what page you were on, and what you expected instead, and we'll take it from there.
